Progressive conference gathered traders and manufacturers

165 delegates attended the third Progressive conference Retail Network, which was held on 31st of May and 1st of June. The two-day event, based in Sandanski, gathered managers and owners of different companies from the Bulgarian fast moving consumer goods sector, representatives of leading trade chains, and interesting Bulgarian and international lectors.

Without a doubt one of the most interesting moments was the discussion with trade chains. There were representatives of 5 chains at the conference – the managing director of “Metro Cash & Carry” Emilian Abadjiev,  the manager “Quality and Project Managent” at “Billa Bulgaria“ Stoyan Tachev, the prime operating director of “Pickadily” Erikian Lantiank, the director “Trade and Marketing” at “Kaufland Bulgaria“ Hristo Petrov, and the senior food assortment manager  at “Hit Hypermarket“ Mario Kolev. During the discussion, the upcoming legislation changes in regards to protection of competition, based on which the government tries to introduce stronger control over the relations between trade chains and manufacturers, were discussed. Both sides actively took part in the discussion about business relations, the behavior of the buyers in the trade negotiations and formation of the product prices.

The three workshops held at the end of the first day of the third Progressive conference were of huge interest to the delegates. From the manager of “ReEkze” Gerogi Todorov, part of the delegates learnt which are the development phases of merchandizing of the FMCG sector in traditional trade. The operating director of ”FMCG Consult” Raya Gursova revealed what is to be expected from the other side during trading negotiations. The specifics of the digital marketing in the FMCG sector revealed the business development manager at “ABC Design and Communication” Justin Toms.

During the two-day conference, the delegates were able to listen to over 10 presentations, some of which were presented by international guests. First was Vladislav Tsanev, senior specialist “Trade chains” at ”Nilsen Bulgaria”, who summarized what happened in the trade network during the past year. Vadim Ketsuriani- director ”Trade analysis for CEE and the Middle East” followed him. His topic was “The most successful trade chains in modern trade in CEE 2016 – Private labels and Strategy”. He was followed by the business management development for Southeastern Europe at Retailplus Roxana Bachiu, who spoke about the perfect arrangement on the shelf or how to make the usual things unusual. The forth presenter for the day was Nikolay Stefanov, sales director at “Craft Foods Bulgaria”, who revealed the invisible cross point between traders and manufacturers. One of the delegates’ favorite presenters - Jeff Green, regional business director at ”Perfetti Van Melle”, discussed whether the survival without profit would the future scenario. Next was the manager of ”VA Groups” Vanya Zheliazkova, talking about the trends for development and management of trade teams and Kalin Kulin – trade director of “Fresh Logistics”, who shared some best practices in logistics and fast moving consumer goods. On the next day the delegates were able to attend the presentations of the managing director of “Market test” Rumyana Kalcheva, who spoke about the trends in the consumer predispositions. After that, as a presenter on behalf of Progressive, performed Daniela Petkova – director key markets “Fast Moving Consumer Goods” at “GfK Bulgaria” with topic “Make a step. Find the potential of the opportunities.” The conference ended with the presentation of the special guest presenter Nenad Pachek. He is the founder and president of Global Success Advisors and made an overview of the economic and business situation in CEE and Bulgaria.

At the end of the conference, Progressive gave a prize to a secret client of one of the trade chains, present on the Bulgarian market. For the occasion Progressive ordered a research which was conducted by International Service Check. The winner was “Pickadily”, which is part of the Belgian Delhaize Group.
