Consumption of non-alcoholic beverages has been steadily decreasing in the Czech Republic, reports Czech Association of Soft Drinks Producers. Last year, the total consumption of soft beverages dropped by 2% to 25.1 million hectolitres. To compare, consumption of non-alcoholic beverages totalled 28 million hectolitres in 2004.
One of the primary reasons behind this decline was the worsening economic situation. A steep drop is clearly visible in 2008, when the global economic crisis hit the Czech economy and when the consumption of beverages went down from 27.4 million hectolitres in 2007 to 26.2 million hectolitres in 2008.
