Hungarian chain CBA is celebrating its 20th anniversary. On the press event organized on the occasion László Baldauf, president of the group said that CBA is willing to become the leader of the Hungarian market again as it was back in 2000 – Baldauf said. (Currently market leader in Hungary is Tesco, followed by CBA and Coop, the two domestic chains.)
Baldauf noted, that Hungarian chains and suppliers should fight back their domestic market, just like it is the case abroad. “In order to achieve this CBA is willing to buy the shops of the chains possibly exiting the Hungarian market and is constantly renovating its own ones” – he said but did not name the chain it is willing to buy. (It is known that the Match supermarkets and Profi discount stores are up for sale as its Belgian owner is willing to exit the Hungarian market.)
CBA is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a heavy media campaign putting the consumer into the focus. In May and in October it will also organize promotions where consumers can win cash.
