Spar International continues to expand in Eastern Europe, with its latest move seeing it enter the Georgian retail market. The group has entered the country with the opening of three outlets in the city of Tbilisi.
The stores range in size from 158 sq. m. to 230 sq. m., and offer a wide range of fresh produce, baby food, non-foods, traditional Georgian baked goods, SPAR own label ranges, and a localised food-to-go service.
Spar is operating in the market through a tie-up with local group Foodmart, which operates 51 outlets under two store formats - Populi and Loli – in the country. The three initial stores have been converted from existing Foodmart outlets, and SPAR said it plans to convert all of the local outlets to its own banner over the next two years.
