Tesco Hungary: 705,2 billion HUF turnover in 2011

Tesco Hungary’s preliminary report about its financial year 2011-12 show that it has raised its turnover by almost 6 per cent last year. The gross income was 705,2 billion HUF (2,35 billion euro). Tesco in Hungary paid an overall tax of 80,5 billion HUF (268 million euro), 10 billion HUF more compared with 2010.

From its overall tax 12,2 billion HUF was the so-called “crisis tax” (a special tax introduced by the Hungarian government in 2010; retailers, banks and telecom and energetic companies have to pay it). Tesco – as the biggest retailer in Hungary – has to pay the highest amount of “crisis tax” among all retailers.

Tesco opened 7 new stores in Hungary (smaller formats) last year and fully renewed two hypermarkets to so called Tesco Extra stores (has three of it). It has also continued its Regional Supplier Forums where it is meeting smaller, regional suppliers giving them the opportunity to present their products and become a regional supplier (so in some regions of Hungary).
