BELGIUM: Delhaize Group posts moderate sales growth for 2012

Belgian grocery retailer Delhaize Group saw sales reach EUR22.74 billion for its full year 2012. This represents an increase of 2.9% at identical exchange rates or 7.7% at actual exchange rates in comparison to the previous year. Organic revenue rose 2.1%.

Sales at Delhaize Group’s US operations dropped 2.2% to USD18.8 billion. Excluding revenues from 126 stores closed in February 2012, US turnover increased by 0.9%. Comparable store sales decreased by 0.8%.

In Belgium, sales grew 1.6% to EUR4.92 billion, resulting from comparable store sales growth of 0.6% and network growth. Revenues from Delhaize Group’s south-eastern Europe and Asia segment increased by 29.9% to EUR3.18 billion. This growth was mainly generated by the Delta Maxi acquisition in Bulgaria, consolidated as of 1 August 2011 and, to a lesser extent, revenue growth in Greece.
