Colgate-Palmolive has reported a sharp drop in net profit for its fiscal first quarter, however, the results were better than analysts had forecast. For the three months to 31 March, net profit was down 16% to $388m. Sales were up slightly to $4.33bn, with organic sales up 6.5%.
The group continued to do well in emerging markets, where sales rose by 10% on an organic basis, despite a 5% drop in Latin America (its biggest market). Sales rose slightly in North America, Europe, and Africa/Eurasia.
