FRANCE: Government set to introduce plain cigarette packaging

The French government is set to introduce plain-packaging laws for all tobacco companies, as part of a crackdown on smoking. The move, which will come into effect from 2016, has been approved by France’s lower house of Parliament. It will now be presented in front of the upper house, where some modifications are possible.
In its current form, the law will require cigarettes to be sold in plain packaging, with the brand name appearing in small letters. Additionally, the packs will have to feature photos of internal organs that have been damaged by smoking.
The law also calls for smoking to be banned in cars if children are present, and bans the use of e-cigarettes on public transport and in offices.
If confirmed, the laws will come into effect from May 2016.
