Asda trial

Asda is launching a trial with Uber Eats from its stores in Leeds (Pudsey) and Birmingham (Barnes Hill).

Customers will be able to order, with no minimum spend, from more than 300 own-brand products and branded everyday items for delivery within 30 minutes. The range includes fresh fruit and vegetables, ready meals, as well as beers, wines and spirits. Orders will be picked in-store by an Asda colleague before being delivered by an Uber Eats courier.

Asda said the partnership will be rolled out to further stores later this year if the trial proves successful.

Simon Gregg, Vice President of Online Grocery at Asda, said: “ This will give Asda customers more choice in how they shop with us and offer yet another way to quickly and conveniently get their favourite branded and own-brand products delivered to the doorstep. Customers can use the Uber Eats app to select from hundreds of items for delivery in the same way they would shop for a takeaway.”

Whilst Asda is the first UK retailer to partner with Uber Eats for grocery delivery, AldiMarks & SpencerMorrisons and Co-op have all launched or expanded partnerships with food delivery services, other the last few months. These include partnerships with Deliveroo, Irish start-up Buymie, and Amazon Prime Now.

Uber launches grocery delivery

Uber has launched a grocery delivery service in 19 cities in Latin America and Canada. This follows Uber’s acquisition of Cornershop, an online grocery provider active in the two markets. Uber said it is also expanded the service to Miami and Dallas in the US later this month.

Customers are able to order groceries from local grocery stores through both the Uber and Uber Eats apps, with delivery in as little as one to two hours.
